The Vet

We'd noticed a big lump in Dans mouth yesterday, right in the same spot where he had an abscess a few years back and had to have a tooth removed. We figured it'd be better to let the vet take a look at it although it didn't seem to be bothering him at all, he is eating like a horse and doesnt seem to have any pain. Anyhow, we trooped along to Ronda to the vet this morning, Susan was pleased it was the good looking Vet that was on duty, I was pleased as he speaks very good English.

Dan happily wandered into the consulting room, it was only when he was dumped on the table that he suddenly realised that this was kind of familiar and smelt like a room in a horrible place in Blairgowrie. The Vet was fairly sure it was another abscess or perhaps an infected root of one of his teeth. He stuck a little syringe in it and some bloody pus came out so that seemed to be the deciding factor. He sprayed some local anesthetic on the area and explained that he'd need to make a small incision to allow it to drain. This was looking like it could be a struggle so I had Dans back paws clenched together in one hand, the other was stuck in his mouth trying to hold it open, Susan had his front paws and his head, the Vet and the Nurse also had their hands in his mouth - he was not a happy bunny but was really good, only really struggling when the scalpel went in. The wound opened and blood came out, it was all over Dan and Susan had a fair bit on her hands.

I was quite impressed, I dont think they would have done that in Scotland, stick a scalpel into a dogs mouth without having an anesthetic, probably health and safety! The Vet had no idea if he was going to be bitten or not but he just got on with it.

The Vet was impressed that he was so good, he was surprised that he still had all his fingers, not used to not being bitten in situations like that. We have anti inflamatory drugs and antibiotics to give him and have to return next week for a check up. We also have to squeeze his mouth 5 times per day and keep the wound open - not allowing it to heal for a few days to help the draining process.

We treated Dan to a visit to the coffee shop as a treat for being such a good Boy.

We stopped by the supermarket on the way home, this is a really good supermarket in Ronda, the food is very fresh and Susan likes the fish counter.

On the way back we got caught up in a cycle race, probably over 100 cyclists surrounded by Police, Civil Protection, Ambulances and marshalls. This area is a mecca for cyclists and this happens quite a lot.

We sat on the terrace for a while reading books, knowing that we really should start the cleaning for our visitors next week but we just couldn't be bothered. We wandered into town for a coffee, the town is quiet as the Romarea is on this weekend so most people are out there.

The TV is dominating our night, a whole load of reality TV is on tonight - what fun!

Today is no smoking day in Spain, I am surprised and impressed that they bother given the number of people that smoke here but aparently they have figured out that smoking does kill people and is a huge drain on the over stretched health service.

"we really should start the cleaning for our visitors next week but we just couldn't be bothered" Tut tut. I expected you both to be cleaning the place from top to bottom for us coming!!
Frances may not come as she is not recovering well from her chest infection.
I have told my sister Mgt to look at your blog.

Sorry to hear Frances is not well, I was not aware she had a Chest Infection. It's over 600 meters high here so a dodgy chest is going to be a handicap fer her.
