Wed 28th - Camping

Our first camping trip this year, we set off early for tariffa and the Atlantic coast of the Costa de la Luth (Coast of Light), we've been down here before a few times to a nice beach so we know the dogs are in for a treat.

We drove through Algeceras, why does anyone want to holiday here? We drove along the coast road towards Tariffa, we dont have a site booked but we dont expect any hassles, there are 3 or 4 to choose from, we agree to stop at the first one.

On the way we stop at this viewpoint, it has a little coffee shop so be bought lunch here and let the dogs out for a walk. The views across to Africa are stunning, the mountains you can see across the water are the Riff Mountains, the Atlas are visible in the distance, it was a little hazy today.
We drove on to and past Tariffa, we found a camp site and drove in, registration was easy and they were very quiet so we picked a pitch and put the tent up, some professional campers were watching us but we still managed it without any embarrasment. .

We walked through the gate to the beach, it is acres of sand and water, heaven for 2 hyper Border Collies. As you can see Africa is only 15km away, I suspect that might not be quite true but it's not far.

We walked along the beach toward the Kite Surfers, this area is known for the winds that come from the Atlantic and as such is a mecca for surfers of all sorts. Kite surfing is really popular right now and the beach was full of them, I dont know how they manage to avoid each other.

This woman agreed to pose with all her gear on.

We walked about 3 miles along the beach, it was a really nice walk, the sun was shining but the wind kept the temperature down a little. We found a lovely beach bar and sat for an hour watching the activity. There was a slimy old man with a very young girl frolicking on a seat, it was quite disgusting, Susan reckons I am jelous!

We headed back along the beach to the camp site, on the way we saw these cows that seem to live on the beach, some of them were very young and one in particular wanted to play with the dogs, it was very amusing. They struggled to catch the tennis ball though, Ben always managed to out run them.

We had a cup of tea at the tent and then headed out to get some dinner, we tried the Camp Site bar but it looked pretty naff so we drove up the road a little to find another restaurant. It was ok but not too great.

We slept reasonably well with a few interruptions but the site was quiet and the dogs eventually settled.
