Toledo

Angus and Dogs in Toledo

Tonight is Saturday night and we had always planned a short day today. We left our Premiere Classe hotel just south of Bordeaux and drove south towards the Spanish Border, we were able to stop often as we had a short journey and a lot of time to do it in. One thing the French have done right is motorway service stations, they are all clean and staffed by friendly people.
Today we saw our first crash, we agreed it was a surprise this was the first we saw as they are terrible drivers! Thankfully no one was injured and the traffic soon moved along. We crossed into Spain with no fan fair, just drove across a bridge and a sign saying welcome to Spain.
Eventually we found our hotel after a little detour, Tom Tom failed us a little but perhaps we had the wrong address in. After asking for directions we realised that we had driven past it earlier. It is a lovely country hotel and it seems pretty quiet, lots of room for the dogs to run about and even a river for them to play in. We drove back to the nearest town for a bite of lunch, sat outside a bar with the dogs as the weather is brilliant.
Back at the hotel we walked the dogs in the countryside for an hour and let them in the river for a bit, they had a great time we then went back into the Santesteban to get some wet dog food to get them to eat more and a few ods and sods for us. The wet food worked a treat, they wolfed it down and are now content – hopefully they wont have the skits in the night. We have sat on the balcony reading and watching the sun go down over the hills.
A long day tomorrow – a good 7 hours of motorway driving to get to Toledo.

Sunday night 24th February
We had a really good night last night in the hotel, the food was excellent and the room pretty good, the only issue was the wooden floors which the dogs struggled with. We set off after a good breakfast and followed Tom Tom through the mountains and eventually to another motorway.
The journey was long and tiring and I am so glad it was a Sunday as the traffic as light. We stopped a few times to let the dogs have a Pee and to fill up the car with Petrol. It wasn't a great day for the dogs but they had had a good run in the morning and a short day yesterday.
As usual we swapped driving, I probably did more than Susan and I got the crappy bit round Madrid in the rain.

We arrived in Toledo in good time, Tom Tom took us right to the door of our hotel which is a great one, we tried to get the dogs in the lift but we got into the situation where we were in the lift but Ben was half out as the door shut, we'll avoid lifts in the future!
Toledo is a lovely town, a bit like ronda but bigger we are staying in the Jewish Quarter. We had a walk round the old town with the dogs, Ben got a little stressed with all the people but he has to get used to these things. Thankfully there is a small park just opposite the hotel which is reasonably enclosed so we can let them run around there and chase the ball before we leave tomorrow morning. We've decided to crack on and try to get to Cortes tomorrow, it'll be another long day but we think it is better for the dogs not to have another strange room and get them settled in their new house.
We went out for dinner and left the dogs, they seemed ok but we left the mobile number with the hotel just in case. As we left we saw this american woman on her own asking if it was safe to go out alone, I suggested that we invite her out with us and Susan agreed so we invited her to join us for dinner, she was a very interesting woman that ran a birdwatching tour guide business and was here at the invitation of the Spanish Government to encourage her company to run holidays to this area.
Back in the room, the dogs are well and the room is in one piece.
